Jelly footwear brand Melissa has looked at the most popular fashion styles for this Summer by measuring their level of popularity based on Google Search Volume over the past four months. They have also identified over 600 fashion trends ranging from clothing to shoes and calculated their popularity level across the 50 states based on Google Search Volume revealing the most fashion-curious states.
With the Barbie movie about to be released and the tremendous welcome The Little Mermaid movie has received since launch, Melissa wanted to identify how these events have impacted our fashion style by revealing the most popular fashion styles for this Summer.
The top 25 most popular fashion styles
Prominent celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kylie Jenner and Rihanna and shows like Succession have embraced quiet luxury, making it one of the season’s biggest trends. Melissa’s research shows that quiet luxury is the most popular fashion style, with an increase in searches of 2,983% in comparison with last year.
When looking at the correlation between the launches of the Barbie and The Little Mermaid movies, we can also see their impact with an increase in searches for the terms Barbiecore and mermaidcore of 1,582% and 1,285%, respectively in comparison with last year.
Footwear Trends
From jelly shoes to silver heels and white sneakers, this season is all about expressing yourself through your clothing and footwear with no limits, and Melissa’s research proves that Americans are all up for it.
Our research found the hottest footwear trends in the U.S. to be cowboy boots, knee-high boots, kitten heels (short stiletto heels), track shoes, ballet flats, and jelly shoes. And when it comes to styles, the top footwear styling obsessions are: blue heels, black boots, red heels, white boots, and black heels.
Fashion Trends
Y2K fashion is back and tops Melissa’s list of the most popular fashion styles loved by Americans, with more than 110k monthly searches. With this trend, we also see the comeback of the much-loved low-rise jeans, cargo pants, and baby tees. Other popular fashion styles among Americans include cottagecore, grunge, motocross, and unexpectedly globlincore.
According to the research, America’s most popular fashion trends over the past 12 months were: cargo pants, corsets, parachute pants, low-rise jeans, and flannel shirts.

Methodology
List of trends was determined by identifying upcoming trends published in fashion media articles.
Search results were obtained using Keyword Planner.
Fashion-forward states:
To obtain the score of each trend per state, we gave value to the search volume of each trend from 1 to 10. The overall score was calculated by obtaining the average score of each trend per state.
Fashion-curious states:
To obtain the score of each trend per state, we identified the monthly search figure per capita and then gave a value to each trend from 1 to 10.
The overall score was calculated by obtaining the average score of each trend per state.
